The ACT has become an increasingly popular exam over the past few years, providing students an important alternative to the SAT. When it comes to preparing for such an important exam, certain students know they do well studying in classroom-style settings, finding others' questions or comments helpful. Other students, however, know they do not perform at their best when attempting to learn challenging academic information in a group setting. They worry about slowing the group down or holding others back because they need to work at a slower pace. If you know you learn best through one-on-one instruction customized to your individual learning needs, consider working with one of the talented private tutors at Manhattan Review.

Meet a Birmingham ACT Tutor: Marco D.
Marco D. was born in Nicaragua and lived there until he moved to the US for college. Marco hoped to someday become a professional educator like his father and cousin. After obtaining a very high ACT score, Marco was accepted at the University of Chicago. While earning his undergraduate degree in mathematics, Marco worked part-time as a tutor in the university's peer learning center, helping others who did not find numbers as interesting as he did. After graduating, Marco attended Johns Hopkins University and obtained a master's degree in education. When he was offered a position as a math teacher at a newly founded international school in Birmingham, Marco was thrilled to relocate and couldn't wait to begin setting up his classroom and selecting curriculum.
Marco loves any chance to work with students, and when he learned Manhattan Review had a local office in Birmingham, he contacted us about helping students prepare for the ACT and other standardized tests, knowing exactly how important a high test score could be when applying to college. Marco was quickly welcomed to the team, and his private tutoring students love his detail-oriented approach to test prep, as well as his innovative and effective study tips. When Marco isn't guiding future college students to their own ACT success, he can be found horseback riding and going to the movies with friends.
