Manhattan Review's local team of tutors and support staff are waiting to provide you with more information on how we can help you build your future.
Most graduate schools in the United States, and in many other countries require the GRE. The test assesses analytical writing, verbal reasoning, and quantitative reasoning. In the GRE's most recent version, which began in 2011, scores range from 0 to 6 in the former category and from 130 to 170 in the latter two areas. The test is adaptive by the individual section in each area, meaning that the number of correct answers in one section determines the difficulty level of the questions in the following section. The 50th percentile of the GRE's approximately 655,000 annual test takers is a score of roughly 151 verbal, 153 quantitative, and a little under 4 for analytical writing. However, admission to a given program is often affected by how an applicant's scores fare against the average numbers in a specific discipline. For example, the typical philosophy major scored a 160 verbal and 153 quantitative, while the average scores for all education majors are 151 verbal and 149 math. In other words, an overall average verbal score would be well below average for a prospective philosophy graduate student, while an average overall quantitative score would be significantly above average for an education major. Manhattan Review's GRE prep classes are designed to improve skills in targeted areas, to help our students meet the score requirements of their designated programs.

I was most impressed with how efficient Vince was with everything, he came prepared and he knew what he was talking about. I liked the efficiency. I already came in with a good idea with what I needed to work on and Vince was great in attacking my weaknesses. I cannot think of anything I disliked or that he could improve about his teaching style.

Meet a Manchester GRE Tutor: Mahmud F.
Mahmud F. is a Manchester-based GRE and SAT tutor for Manhattan Review. Originally from Beirut, Lebanon, he holds bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees in English literature from Rice University, Tufts University, and the University of Wisconsin respectively. Mahmud spent 5 years as an adjunct faculty member of various English departments in the Milwaukee area. He moved to England to conduct research for a book on the works of John Milton, and supports his research through his tutoring and other selected teaching assignments.
Mahmud's own GRE scores placed him in the 94th percentile of all test-takers, and he is proud of the fact that some of his students have exceeded his elite GRE performance. His tutoring clients have been accepted into graduate programs in a variety of disciplines in the arts and sciences, and he has more than a few Ivy League acceptances to his credit. He describes his teaching style as both rigorous and intuitive. "I start with general ideas about teaching the material that have worked in the past, but I ultimately allow my students to show me, through their actions and other unspoken cues, the best way for me to get them to where they need to go." Mahmud's hobbies include bicycle racing, photography, and following the NFL's Detroit Lions.
