Meet a Birmingham TOEFL Tutor: Janine P.
Janine P. discovered she had an ear for languages at a young age. Born into a military family, she grew up living all around the world but returned to the United States to attend college. Janine graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor's degree in linguistics. During her undergrad program, she worked as a tutor in her university's learning center and discovered how much she enjoyed helping others master information that came easily to her. She then obtained a master's degree in education from Stanford University, as well as a TESOL certificate. After graduating, she accepted a job as a translator, working at a humanitarian organization with an office in Birmingham. Janine speaks four languages, and she was excited to help people communicate better.
While Janine enjoyed her work, she also wanted to support others seeking to obtain their own professional and academic successes, which she knew would start with a quality education. When she learned Manhattan Review had an office in Birmingham, she contacted us about helping students prepare for the TOEFL and other standardized tests assessing one's knowledge of English. We were delighted to welcome Janine to the team, and her classroom-style prep courses fill up almost as soon as they are announced. Her students appreciate her teaching experience, as well as her strong academic knowledge and helpful time-management techniques. When she isn't guiding future college students to their own TOEFL success, Janine enjoys traveling throughout Europe and playing the piano.
